His Excellency Bishop MAROY RUSENGO François-Xavier
Born on 1 September 1956, ordained priest on 19 August 1984.
Appointed Bishop on 23 November 2004.
Episcopal ordination on 16 January 2005: Auxiliary Bishop.

After the death of Bishop Charles Mboha, Bishop François-Xavier Rusengo, then Auxiliary Bishop, was elected on Wednesday 26 April 2006. the diocesan community learned with great joy of the appointment by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI of the Archbishop, who had been auxiliary bishop since 22 November 2004, as Metropolitan Archbishop of Bukavu.

He was born in Bukavu on 1 September 1956 and ordained priest on 19 August 1984 by Aniello, Apostolic Nuncio to the Democratic Republic of Congo
. This appointment is seen as a conclusion to the family’s suffering and torment caused by the successive deaths of its pastors. Through this appointment, the faithful perceive God’s answer to their prayers for a new pastor.

The new pastor knows his sheep, and his sheep know him. He will face many challenges.
These include in-depth evangelisation, the crisis of faith, the family, women, youth and education, disease, unemployment, famine, the destruction of the ecosystem, not to mention the burning issues of the moment, namely peace and good participatory governance in a state governed by the rule of law .

The Church-Family of God in Bukavu has had the grace of receiving pastors who are close to the people. They are simple, very approachable men without arcane rituals. These pastors have always led a pastoral ministry of closeness, where each and every one feels loved, listened to and welcomed as they are in the diocesan community. Such momentum and such good fortune are one of the keys to understanding the enthusiasm and love of the people amid much joy and sacrifice.

With the blessings of the centenary and trusting in God according to the motto of the new Pastor, ‘Thy will be done’, we will build together a Church Family of God in this beautiful diocese that the Good Lord has generously granted us.

Archbishop of Bukavu, 18 June 2006.
